It's been a week already since my arthroscopic surgery. Had a SLAP tear and needed three sutures. So far the pain hasn't been bad. Walking around in a sling feeling useless at everything. My Doctor suggested I stay home for 5 weeks, but was only able to stay home the week of my surgery, drove me up the wall. So I decided to start coming into work, luckily I am in the IT field and can just sit here on my PC and do the do. I surf, mountain bike, kickbox, do freeweights, paddle board and just about anything else I can do, besides sit at home and watch TV. I heard some horrible stories about SLAP tear surgeries before I got mine. And was nervous, oh also i am petrified of needles, "passed out when I got my first cortizone shot". Now I am known as the guy that passed out when I go see my Dr. Overall I really havn't experienced the pain I was expecting. And no i did not have a pain pump catheder after my surgery. I think what helped the most was a ice water pump that I used on my shoulder every hour for the first 4 days. I know I shouldn't be driving but am going into work early and leave early in order to avoid heavy traffic. My goal is to have this shoulder fixed and be back in the water doing my 4 hour surfing sessions mountain biking and back in action. What I do have to realize over and over is that what ever work and care I put into this will determine my goal. Again the post operation pain hasn't been that bad, not sure if I just got lucky or just high pain tolorance. Do have 2 questions, does having your arm prompt on you office chair and moving a mouse with the same arm do any harm to the surgery? And also do taking muscle supplements help the healing process? |

Thought I would keep a kind of diary of my injury and recovery here. What worked what didn't work for me. I probably am leaving a bunch of stuff out but it's all I can remember right now, I may edit it later. |
