update from surgery March 10th.09 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 1
It has really been long road to recovery, I was really doing good until I fell about 4 weeks out from surgery... I got the pain back in my shoulder to where I can't sleep at nights .... Doc says its just part of the recovery process. I did progress with range of motion... But can't seem to get the pain to subside at night... The only area I still need working on is turning my hand behind my back when fastening a bra or to scratch it..... other then that I got other motions about 90 percent . hurts a little to lift upward but not excruciating pain....My pt ended at 8 weeks due to insurance so I been on my own for therapy.... I did recover some of my strength .... My question is could I possibly retorn the labrum as I got the night pain again ? But yet Doc says He don't think so as I did make range of motion progress. I had 3 anchors , and the bursa was removed with shaving of the bone.. 10-2 tear

Doubtful the Labrum itself would retear, and if the sutures/anchors had torn, I'm imagining pain on another entire level, but I could be wrong. I've made some minor movements just getting my shirt on that I was sure was the worst pain ever...

MHarley, There are a lot of possibilities to why the night pain, but this is something to track. At 4 months it is still difficult to assess whether you had any damage to the repair from a fall. How exactly did you fall and how has the pain changed or not changed over the past few months??

It is too bad about the therapy visit cut off. I would really try to get more visits and if impossible then pay out of pocket
for a few visits with a good manual therapist to evaluate your neck and shoulder and make sure there are not glaring issues that can be resolved with a therapist. You spoke early on about the neck, is it absolutley clear this is not causing any issues??? It took me nearly 4 months before I could sleep on the affected side without discomfort. I would try to get another MRI if this fails to improve the pain.
At month 5-6 your OS should be able to perform an MRI see into the joint and with contrast can tell whether the lession has healed.

I slipped going up our narrow steps and landed on my elbow with arm upwards... I was actually sleeping in bad a few days out of surgery and it felt great till I fell...The pain from my lower head area went away after about 2 weeks, which the doc explained to me was just a nerve pinching . but as far as the shoulder it feels just like before I had the surgery done... no worse but not better either...I have increased in strength prior to being released from pt and most range is back... Thats why the doc thinks it just a healing process I need to go through around the 4 to 6 month time frame... I am really thinking of going for few extra visits out of my own pocket... then if all still is not right I will insist on a mri...Thank you for yor input
