Hi all... I have a question about my progress in rehab - I know there are a few PT's in the group and I'm hoping for some advice, or if anyone else has experienced something similar. Here's some history in a nutshell: Hurt my shoulder in July '07 when I awkwardly (stupidly) lifted something heavy. After lots of conservative treatment and a few negative MRI's had a subacromial decompression and debridement of partial thickness RC tear (bursal side) in March. Pain continued to get worse after surgery; new MRI showed longitudinal tear of biceps tendon, partial thickness RC tear (articular side) and small posterior labral tear. Went to a new surgeon - during his exam O'Brien's test was very painfully positive. Had second surgery 4 weeks ago - had a biceps tenotomy and release of subacromial adhesions. OS said biceps tendon was "deficient" and in terrible condition and there was a lot of debris in the shoulder, but it otherwise looked ok.
So here's the question: I've been doing well in PT with biceps rehab, but I still have pain when I bring my arm across my body. It's the same pain I've had since day 1 and I'm worried there's still something going on. I also have pain in the same spot with external rotation (pain is in front of shoulder above the armpit). The OS didn't seem too concerned and said to keep up with rehab and keep stretching - but posterior capsule stretch really hurts in front. If, in fact, it's just a matter of rehabbing more, any ideas on how I can help this pain to resolve? Any thoughts on where this pain might be coming from? (Or am I being too impatient at 4 weeks out?)
Thanks so much for any help- I know I'm not a fellow SLAPper, but my shoulder's hurtin'!
Sue
