At 7 weeks the repair is pretty dang strong, you should be stretching aggressively by now...I know for myself that the real progress didn't begin until m PT stretched the heck out of me. It would feel vulnerable in practice but once he was done it would feel so much better. Getting ROM back is #1 priority for recovery, it must take place in order for the strengthening phase to be successful.
Bullet, the best exercise for me was laying down on my back or standing with a broom handle and using my good arm to lift my bad arm. It stretches and increases ROM so quickly. This exercise cleared up my nerve impingement and clicking I was having at the front of my shoulder. Now I don't require the stick but still use it for laying down and stretching my arm over my head. Also for external rotation you can use the stick to stretch our externally. I as well find in the wing position my arm is very weak but front elevation and side elevation are good, all because of the broom stick stretches...

Awesome, I started stretching it my own and started some real basic strengthening in PT. For the most part things are going fairly well, still feels a little achey but I believe thats because of the increased work load. Thr popping has subsided slightly, not completely, but none of them are painful so I'll just chalk it up to some scar tissue. I have an appt with an OS next monday, he is not the one who did my surgery but hopefully he can tell me if things are progressing normally. Also, ROM has improved a lot, still gets fairly stiff towards the end but has improved a lot.

Hey bullet, awesome news! The popping is from an inflammed bursa, it's totally benign and should be of no concern. Stretching out the arm is what breaks all mobility and strength barriers, that is my experience anyway. Keep it up and let us know how it goes.
I went swimming for the first time yesterday and I feel it did wonders for me. That night I was able to lie on my back and put my arm overhead and finally touched the floor. I saw my OS last week and he said to start aggressive stretch and strengthen, today is 8 weeks for me.

Imari, I am glad you were able to try the swimming. I found this to be so very helpful in allowing the shoulder to move without gravity and change some of the muscle holding patterns that were contributing to extra tightness and soreness in certain directions. I am only doing the breast stroke at this time, what about you?

I was doing butterfly and really enjoyed the stretch. Kidding.
I too was doing breast stroke, with shallow extensions. It felt awkward at first but I quickly warmed up and swam about 1,500 meters. Today my arm feels a little stiff but not sore...so far all good. My OS last week my shoulder was "desirably stiff" so things are cruising along. Just focusing on that six month mark...

You got me on the first few words. I actually met a gentleman, swimmer a few days ago in the hot tub at my club. There was someone doing the butterfly and we both stood up to watch, such a great stroke. I asked him whether he swims the butterfly and he said, actually he hadn't been swimming and started back a few weeks ago with the butterfly and felt a pop in his shoulder..Hasn't been able to do pushups ect... or swim since. Needless to say I talked his ear off about possible SLAP. Poor guy he just thought he would have a few quiet moments in the tub.
