How soon did you start PT? 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
When did you guys start PT after surgery? and how soon after surgery was your post-op with your OS? I am scheduled for my post-op next Tuesday, which will be 15 days post-op. We will schedule PT then. Looking at other posts I see most folks starting PT much earlier. Wonder if this will create problems for PT -- adhesions, more limited ROM, etc. BTW, I have had a spectacular recovery from surgery -- down to just otc Motrin after second day and virtually no pain since (except for the pain and stress in my neck from wearing this #$%:& sling!). Ihave cheated a little (well, actually a lot) on wearing the sling as it's far more comfortable to not wear it. I am now 9 days post-op. Thanks for input and hope all are recovering well!

I think when everyone starts PT depends exactly on what you had done and how conservative your OS is.

I had a SLAP repair with 2 anchors, cyst drained and acrominoplasty. I was to start pendulums 2 days post-op and do at least twice a day. I saw OS 1 week post-op for follow-up.

I started PT last week at 4 weeks PO and am weaning from my sling. I like you had started "weaning" from the sling a bit earlier than I was supposed to. Now at 5 weeks post-op I pretty much just wear the sling in public and at work. I work with lots of kids so PT wants me to be careful not to get bumped. I am supposed to still wear the sling to bed until next week but I am thinking of trying to go sans sling tonight.

I am curious though why some docs seem so conservative and not letting people even do pendulums or starting PT so late. I really think starting on those pendulums went a long way to preparing me to start PT and be out of the sling.

Yeah I was surprise at how late I have been reccommended to do things. 4 weeks no motion in a sling, pretty much atrophied everything.

I had a tear from 9:30-11:30 with 2 anchors, and a posterior stabilization.

I think the amount of time depends on the severity of the repair. I was not able to move my arm for four weeks. I had a tear from 9:00 to 3:00 and four anchors. I was not able to do pendulums until the end of the forth week. It has been eight weeks now and I am just starting to get out of the sling around the house. Doc wants me to wear it when I go out to help keep my arm from moving.

I had a SLAP repair with 2 anchors and a capsulorrhaphy. I was doing pendulums, shrugs, shoulder blade squeezes, and passive elbow flexion and extension five times a day the day after surgery. I saw my OS 10 days post-op and that is when I started PT (I happened to work for one then!!). I was in a sling for 4 weeks, and wasn't allowed to do active ROM until around 5 weeks. Then started strengthening at 6 weeks. Back in the gym lifting weights with almost no restrictions around 12 weeks. Any other questions, let me know as I am now over 6 months out!!
