Question about antiinflammatory meds 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago

I have read on here where some are taking antiinflammatory medication, such as Motrin following their surgery. I was always taught that inflammation helps heal and taking an antiinflammatory, although it can relieve the pain, can prolong healing. Inflammation is a normal response the body uses to heal tissue. My OS even told me not to take it after my surgery so there would be some inflammation and I could heal quicker. To those who are taking Motrin and other antiinflammatory medications, did your surgeon tell you to take it? If not, I wanted to alert you to this so you could ask your surgeon if you should be taking it or not in case you didn't know this.

I'm glad you brought this up! The anesthesiologist sent me home with instructions to combine vicodin with ibuprofen. When I returned to my OS to get the stitches out, he said not to take ibuprofen - that it actually hindered healing of the labrum. He recommended Tylenol instead. Next time I go back I need to tell him that he and the anesthesiologist need to get their stories straight.

I was planning on taking NSAID's in between my narcotic pain killers after surgery, but my OS told my parents not to let me take them for 2 weeks. He said that he wanted the inflammation and bleeding to help the labrum heal back down to the bone. He said I could take Tylenol when I got off the narcotics, but that was it. Thankfully I only took narcotics a couple times the night of surgery and stopped them. Then I took Tylenol for the day after, then stopped that too. 24 hours after surgery I wasn't on any pain relievers.
