i agree with you about getting a little depressed, actually scared reading some of the posts regarding ruff recovery after this type of surgery..BUT my son has a very good attitude and wants to move on from this situation..and i am NOT letting him read any of this stuff on here! its really an individual choice on how you approach your recovery. good luck to all and i hope to be able to share some more successful recovery stories. but i am still scared for him!

my son is a swimmer and his surg will be next month..we were assured he will be come back 3 times stronger after this surgery and we are going with that attitude..it was abit scary reading some of these posts but as someone said..it is what you make it...he is more than ready to get this done and be over with..that is how you need tthink..its going to be a ruff couple days or weeks but we are going to be better for it..gotta take a step back sometimes to take a big step forward! so good luck to all and keep us posted on your experience.

To be realistic, he should expect a few rough months, not just days or even weeks. SLAP tear surgery has typically a longer recovery than an ACL repair in the knee. Better buckle up for the long haul...

Can I ask why he's waiting until next month? In my case, the pain was so severe that waiting was no option.

SLAP and Bankart Tear Surgey 6/11 (3 weeks postop) 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Hello all,

I am a 45 year old male who was injured in an Ice Hockey Game. After 10 weeks I finally could not take the pain and opted for the surgery.

1) 6 anchors to tie Labrum back to Fossa rim
2) Microfraction in socket to hopefully stimulate cartilage growth.

1st 3 days absolutely needed oxycodone (2x every 4 hours)
Careful here as these pills cause constipation...Hydrate

Moved on to ALEVE and while it wasnt as good as Codone, atleast I could get off the narcotic.

Pt started 8 days post-op. 6 session later I feel better everyday. Its not easy, but going well for sure. I still struggle sleeping through the night. I sure do need a good nights rest.

I will post updates weekly!

Thank for the info..One should never compare each other in these situations..support is the main issue. In My Opinion..I am happy to hear you are moving on..PT it seems is the hardest row to haul. Pain will subside..My son is young and fairly asymptomatic while he stays out of the swim team drilling. He is now enjoying lifeguarding tournaments and surfing and wake surfing until his surgery. Then he will rest and recover.I would like to see these boards take on a better attitude regarding healing and recovery..I know many folks who have gone thru this and it has all worked out..stay positive, get and keep good dr and PT and follow the drs orders..oldest rule in the book... Good Luck and be well...
