14th Week Update and Thanks 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I want to thank everyone for the encouragement a couple of weeks ago when I wasn't sure how I was going to work this all out. I went to see my OS yesterday because of the loss of strength and pain I've experienced since the mess up in PT, and it was confirmed that the physical therapy tore my rotator cuff. But Friday was my last day for physical therapy. I have no new script from the doctor and am not allowed to continue without it. A couple of weeks ago, I downloaded isometric exercises from: http://medicalcenter.osu.edu/pdfs/PatientEd/Materials/PDFDocs/exer-reh/upper/isometric-shoulder.pdf
These have helped immensely with getting strength back and working out the kinks I've been having with movement. I discussed with my OS how to work out the rotator cuff tear and new pain from the labrum. His recommendations were very different than what the physical therapists recommended anyway. It seems that I will be better off at this stage working on the joint by myself. My OS did say that I may need surgery to fix the rotator cuff tear, but I'm hoping with time and care it won't be necessary.

Thanks again!

Keli

Hi Keli, GOOD LUCK!!!! I sure hope you get better! I'm going to see if I can print these off, and have my PT look at them, they look like something I could use too. My last PT said I only had 2K of benefits, NOT true, apparently my insurance has no cap. The "old" PT I had didn't do me many favors, so now my "new" PT has to undo some things and try to fix my now frozen shoulder...sigh.

Skyla, wishing you a fantastic therapist to fix the frozen shoulder! Mine was overly tight and nearly frozen when I started in with the last set of therapy folks. They did a great job with stretching it out although we had a week and a half to work it out (doctor's timeframe) so it was a rather aggressive rush. A really good massage/stretch therapist makes all the difference in the world. Plus I threw myself into the exercises even though they hurt like you know what at first. By pushing it, I got through the worst of the pain in three days. Hope it goes as well for you. Being able to get my arm over my head with assistance took about a week and a half of intensive work. You can do it.
