Re:Hopefully I can finally get an answer 1 Month, 1 Week ago Karma: 2
Well lets see 7 weeks post op today Woohoo. LOL

Had a Physio Appt today. Saw some dramatic improvements in my ROM

Shoulder Flexion went from 98 to 122, post manipulation was at 128
Shoulder Abduction went from 75 to 112 post manipulation was at 125
External Rotation went from 38 degrees to 55 degrees
Behind my back went from C1 to L5

So really quite a remarkable improvement in my ROM in such a short time frame, certainly brightens up my spirits. As I continue to battle so bouts of depression from lack of proper sleep and inability to be active. Yes I miss my sports, can't tell you the last time, I went this long with out playing so type of organized sport.

So I will continue with the wall climbs in both Flexion and Abduction, scapular retractions and External rotations with the theraband.

I will also start using a ball for climbs up the wall, across my body and out. When at the limits I will use the ball for a stretch.

I am quite happy at the lack of pain as well. For walking around, it feels like my shoulders are normal and I never had the surgery. The only thing I notice is a tightness restriction when reaching my ROM limits, with is from the posterior stabilization. However any actions behind my back does provide some discomfort.

So glad to hear you are improving! 7 weeks was the magic number for me as well and from what I read before my surgery the 7-8 week mark was when most started seeing marked improvements in ROM.

Being pain free (well less pain anyway) for even a few hours is a nice relief and you will certainly know when you pushed things to far, your arm will remind you! I started walking my dogs with my hubby in the evening. We live on country roads so not much traffic and a few good hills to boot. It took me one walk to figure out I need to keep my surgery arm in my pocket when I am walking as I am an arm swinger when I walk- my arm was SCREAMING the next day. Now I am pulling it out for short periods and it seems to do better.

I live in NW Washington State and it seems our more rainy season is here(4 seasons-Wet, less rain, light rain, and get out the floaties) so I am going to give my elliptical a try, probably without the arms (or at least one) to start. Doc said if I get full ROM back before the end of ski season I can go. Since ski season is late to open (nothing yet) I am keeping out hope for a late season

Keep up the hard work with your PT. I found myself a few times this last week with the holiday letting myself not do my stretches and I am paying for it this week.

Glad to hear you are doing so well it gives me hope. I am 20 days postop, and I am not painfree yet. Sleeping is a little better. I look forward to the day that I am painfree. I hope that I do as well as you are doing at 7 weeks.

Thanks.

20 days post op, there was still some minor discomfort. I wasn't sleeping in a bed or sleeping great either at that point. Just follow the protocol improvement happens pretty quickly so far.

I think Whistler was going to open the top of the mountain last week but the resorts down here are hurting bad. Mt Baker, which is where we ski/ride is usually at least partially open by now but the 18" they had a few weeks ago is down to less than 8"

My diehard PT was so desperate to ride she and her boyfriend hiked up Mt Baker T-giving day and rode down what little snow was there. I guess I'm kinda happy....If I can't ski NO ONE CAN

At least the weather has been good enough I actually worked with my 2 youngest horses this afternoon for the first time since the accident in July. Progress is nice, I was able to use the hoof rasp on 6 hooves before my arm got tired!

We will see what the weather fairy brings us in the PNW tomorrow.

Keep up the progress! teri
