I am at week 12 of recovery from labrum and glenoid debridement. My pain is getting worse-I have not done much more than lay aroung in agony for the last 8 days. I met with my surgeon today and he is at a loss for why i am in so much pain. I met with a pain mgt doc last week and had the mri he ordered today on my neck and back. I feel we have to start looking at everyhting. I will say my biggest lesson through all of this so far is you have to be a fierce advocate for yourself-no one else is going to look out of for you-regardless of our romanticized idea of docs. They increased my pain meds to no avail today. I am miserable and can't wait unitl we find out what is going on with me. All I can say at this point is i am lucky to have my wife taking care of me and the kids and our business and I am trying to stay hopeful. I will update after my thurs read of mris-ctsacn and blood work-yaaa=anohter week of hospital visits!

Rod, I am so sorry to hear this. It is very discouraging to me personally, having gone through two surgeries already.
You do have to advocate for yourself, absolutely no doubt about that. The diagnosis of "complex regional pain syndrome" is becoming all too popular. Syndrome means either there is no real cause of the pain or we don't know what it is.
Please don't let them diagnose your with a chronic pain syndrome until they investigate EVERY possibility of the true cause of your pain!
Hang in there, hopefully things will improve.
Hugs,
Heather

Hi Rod,
Sorry to hear you are still in so much pain. Hopefully the docs will find out the reason for your pain. Hang in there! Remember we are here for you!

Rod, So sorry to hear that you are having so much pain! I hope things get cleared up soon and you get back on track. Does ice help at all? That much pain med isn't a good thing as you know. Hope they can shed some light on your condition. All the best! -Andy

Thanks all for the kind words. It is funny how a community works-I was really feeling low last night and after I posted I perked up a little. It is tough being on the pain meds-but at this point I have to find some way to get comfortable so I can work. I sell insurance to small and medium sized businesses and you have to be really focused and in problem solving mode to help your clients. I am hoping that I get some answers this week. The pain is really strange-that deep ache in the joint from prior to surgery is gone, my arm feels like the bicep is tornor my arm is broke and the socket feels like it is weak and very achey all around the shoulder area including my upper back and the right side of my neck. My doc is having me do all of these tests to start eliminating possibilities. My problem is my mind keeps going to what could be the worst case scenario-cancer-degenerative bone disease-osteoperosis... I am going to see a psych counsleor later this week just so I have someone to tlak to about this stuff. I wonder how people just 80 years ago dealed with this type of pain? I have a lot to live for and I am determined to get past this, but it is deffinatley mentally draining. Being able to voice all of this here is very helpful. I appreciate the replies and advice-take care and I will promise to update later this week. PS- I will not let them classify me as in undefinable pain-I will get to the bottom of this and work through it!!!!
