Re:Pain meds and surgery 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Ariel,

I too, had experiences like Matt and Sky. I think I had the same surgery that Sky was talking about. I had all those things done. I too, felt pretty good, uncomfortable only when I returned home the day of the surgery. I was sent home with a pain pump and given instructions on how to remove it on the 3rd day. At that point I knew exactly what it meant to keep on top of the pain. 2 Lortabs every 4 hours with 2 advil in between at 2 hour intervals (per nurse) I don't mean to scare you. I just wasn't prepared for the after effects. I went in for a rotator cuff repair. None of the other injuries showed up during the arthrogram. I woke up with a lot more than I anticipated. I have read about some people having little or no pain, that wasn't my luck. I am now 12 weeks post op and still have problems sleeping. Still going to PT and working really hard to get back to normal OS just tells me I have to be patient. On good days, advil or aleve is fine. I tend to wait until my nerves are just shot to reach for the Lortab. I am also on an anti imflamatory drug called mobic. It kills my stomach. Seems at this point I am trading one mad dog for another, I hate to take pills. I did not know what a slap tear was until I went to my 1st PT appointment. My OS didn't even exlain this to me at my 1st post op appt. I was beginning to think that this was all in my head. Then I found this site. I believe that it has helped me keep my sanity. I have always had a high tolerance for pain. Lots of Luck to you. Take it easy, even if you feel great the 1st few days. I'm sure that you are in better physical condition than I am. I am 51 and have diabetes. I think this contributes to some of my problems. ROM is great. Still have that bothersome pain. I keep on going to work.(Went back after 11 days) If I work through the stiffness and pain in the mornings I seem to get through the day alright. Nights are still not so good. Sorry to ramble on, this is a good place to vent. Let us know how you are, and just know that we all care about you and your recovery
