Muscles Worked: This exercise emphasizes the infraspinatus and teres minor muscles of the rotator cuff.

Equipment: TheraBand or similar rehabilitation band/cord.

Starting Position:

  • Stand upright, with your elbows at your sides with your forearms bent at 90 degree angles, such that your forearms are pointing straight away from the body.
  • Grip the band with your palm upwards in each hand such that there is slight tension between your hands.
  • Note that this exercise works both sides at once.

Motion:

  • Pull the band outwards to each side, away from your body, with each arm.
  • Your elbows should maintain their positions at your sides.
  • Maintain 90 degree angles between your upper arms and your forearms for the exercise.
  • Return your arms to their initial positions to complete the exercise.
