Muscles Worked: This exercise emphasizes the upper back muscles as they connect to the shoulder. These muscles are the latissimus dorsi, the teres major and the posterior deltoid (shoulder).

Equipment: TheraBand or similar rehabilitation band/cord.

Starting Position:

  • Attach a theraband to a hook or doorknob by tying a loop in the middle so that there are two ends free.
  • Extend your arms and grasp an end of the band in each hand.
  • Maintain an upright posture throughout the exercise.

Motion:

  • Keep your elbows in and pull your hands towards your body to a point below your rib cage but above your belly button.
  • Your palms should be facing upwards.
  • Focus on squeezing your shoulder blades in and down.
