Part 3
So The pain had become too much to enjoy life as I liked to live. On 11/30/07 I had my first visit with orthopeadic surgeon. X-ray showed large spur front top of shoulder. A positive O'briens test suggested a slap tear. Dr. ordered an arthrogram and MRI. I had the images done and the follow up appointment confirmed slap tear. The Dr. and I had a forthright conversation about surgery. He told me sometimes the results are good and sometimes people have a hard time and end up in more pain and have increased stiffness. "One thing for sure", he said "the 3 hours of surgery is not my concern, that is the easy part. The hard part is the twelve weeks after for you". His recommendation was repair slaptear, remove spur, subacromial decompression and bursectomy, check rotator cuff for appropriate suturing or debridement, and a subpectoral biceps tenodesis. I told him not to worry about me and the rehab. If I chose the surgery route I would attack the therapy with a vengence. I did have a decision to make! |
