I've been out of work for over a month now, awaiting surgery.
However, I worked this past Friday because the office needed someone to come in to get the mail and do some light filing and mostly clerical stuff.
My shoulder isn't hurting in an untolerable way while I am doing light activity so I felt absolutely sure that I could manage.
As a matter of fact, the financial situation has gotten so tight that I offered to work Saturday as well, as it was just half a day and another assistant would be there, so we could definitly juggle the tasks if I had pain.

The day went well, and it was very clear to me how much I missed working even if the days were light and I had plenty of help.

Thing is that, my shoulder started burning by the end of the day, which wasn't terribly painful but I noticed other stuff.
I noticed that I was using my back more in my work to compensate for not being able to lift and turn my arm.

And then next day, I slept most of the day. When I awoke, I felt so tired, almost with a hung over feeling and my arm was crazy sore in place it hadn't previously been.

Mostly I'm having a very deep pain under my arm pit sort of, but its in the back where I can't reach it. It's like the underside of the shoulder joint. And I have a pain it's a straight line circle from under my arm around to the top of the shoulder joint.
My husband tried to massage the area and said the muscle or tendon under that area is tight and knotted.

I tried doing deep tissue massage with some lotion but I can't reach the sore spots.

I'm concerned a bit because I wonder, if this matters with the surgery I'm having.

I watched a video on youtube.com and was horrified at the surgical entry points.
Well, the arthoscopic videos were kinda cool in watching how they inspect the shoulder and bur out spurs and flatten the bone to make more room but what freaked me out was when I saw how they sorta stabbed the patient in making the incision to place the arthroscopic equipment.

I mean, I guess it takes some strength to cut through tendon and muscle- better to do it with force and quick than to cause a lot of trauma cutting slowly but - I've done a lot of surgery in my life, and this made me queasy.
Plus it didn't help that in the video I watched, that the first horrific point of entry is the exact spot that I'm having pain at right now.

Kinda makes me feel that if I have an injury there now, it won't matter much by the time of surgery because they will cut through that area.

Oh boy..
I could have done with out seeing the video of placement of the arthroscopic stuff.

I really hope my doctor knows what he is doing.

I was reviewing and trying to figure out what my surgeon is planning on doing and it looks sort of up in the air.
It appears by the paper work I have that he's planning on doing the  subacromonial decompression- so, from what I've read on the internet I guess that means that he thinks I have impingement.
But that isn't exactly what we discussed.

I'm a bit confused because my mri said I have 2 labral tears.

My surgeon told me last month that he wasn't planning on addressing those, that he planned to do a bursectomy and clean up the junk in there.

But he did say if he saw anything else that he would address it.
But-
I got my physical therapy script and it says my first post op appointment will be 4 days after surgery- as I am having surgery on a Thursday.
Then it says 3 days per week for 4 weeks with a follow up with him one week post op.

So, that makes me feel like that is the protocol for basic arthoscopic SAD.

Good Grief.
I wonder if everyone goes in- not knowing exactly what they are having done during surgery.

All I know is that my symptoms are getting worse with lessened activity but I couldn't maintain my activity level previously.
I'm having trouble holding things now, with my right arm and can't lift up with much strength.

I was playing with my dog yesterday and I tried to push her and she didn't budge with my right arm no matter how hard I tried to push her, but she moved easily with little effort with my left arm.
I hadn't realized how much strength I had lost.

I think I've been doing more and more compensating with my back than I realized esp. in the reaching dept.

I'm feeling- ehhh
Not too sure about the whole thing at present.

I can't go on like this but I'm worried about if the surgeon can and will fix the problem I'm having.

It seems odd that the pains I am having are all referred pain.
If there is something in addition to the bursa and need for more room- I wish he would just go ahead and address it as I am certainly not wanting to be in for a long haul and need additional surgeries.

I've been reading on the message board.
It seems a little slow here and I only had one person even reply to my introduction.
I do want to interact with people who have been through surgery to get more of an idea of what to expect and for support and to offer it to those who are also in need.

I'm just not feeling so confident at the moment.
