Well okay, not necessarily fine, but pretty good at any rate. Life has been going by pretty quick these past few weeks as I’m getting back into the swing of things. I actually felt okay on a train down to New York City on Friday. It still wasn’t super-comfortable but it was Cinco de Mayo! Physical therapy is going well. My physical therapists have put together a progress report for Dr Alfandre on Friday as I have a check up appointment with him. They measured my range of motion and commented that it has dramatically increased. Where I notice the biggest improvement is the finger ladder, as I am climbing a good foot higher than I was before.
I still feel some twinges here and there but not too bad. I find that the muscles surrounding or near the incision sites are the culprits. I think the nerves are still figuring themselves out. Pain is minimal, and my arm is slowly coming back into service. I can type now with my right arm for limited periods of time. I find that some movements are now natural again. Things like getting a spoon out of a kitchen drawer, using the TV remote, etc. Sleeping is okay now. I still wake up a few times a night and it still takes forever to get to sleep but I find that I’m sleeping deeper than before and don’t feel such nagging fatigue. I just need to go to bed around 7 pm if I ever want to sleep before 10pm. Kidding of course, but I haven’t been to sleep before 1am in a long time. One last thing is I’ve started to exercise again. I took a long time off because I didn’t want to risk damage to my shoulder but now I think it’s okay. I have an elliptical machine and am trying to work on some basic cardio stamina. Obviously I’m not using the arms but just my legs, but it gets my heart rate up so I’m happy. |
