Well, I thought I would give u all an update as to how surgery went yesterday. They did a scope and an open latarjet stabilization which the OS said went well. He also debrided a suprapinatus tear on the articular surface and of the labrum and as well some scar tissue at the back.

I woke up in a lot of pain and so I caved and had them do a nerve block...which again they had problems finding and kept hitting my Phrenic nerve. I'm still in the hospital right now, hooked up to a morphine PDA pump until at least this evening. Hoping to be released tomorrow. The pain is still really bad and it feels like they poured concrete in there. They also used staples to close it which I can definitely feel.

Anyways that's all I can manage to update right now cuz I can't keep my eyes open. I've already fallen asleep twice while trying to post this lol. I'm glad its done and I can finally move forward. Just waiting on scripts for both oxycodone and oxycontin.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone...they are so very much appreciated! Ill update again soon.

So glad it is over for you, Leanne. Nerve block afterward? Ouch. Take care - could you imagine being at home right now without pain control? Makes me sick just to think about it. But whatever helps you through. the subscap repair will be bothersome but that too shall pass. Guess when you have constant pain it all becomes relative.

Yes...the nerve block after was not fun in the least bit. Those twitching movements around the just sliced and diced shoulder were enough to nearly bring me to tears. But it gave me about 8 hours of relief (was hoping for longer) and all sensation so far that I know.

The nurse did take off the bulky dressing with two dressings underneath. The big one at the front and also still not sure how many other incisions there are.

Anyways I'm fading fast again...will update later

My first two blocks did not involve the jabbing/twitching procedure, and they lasted MUCH longer 24 compared to 8-10 hrs for the second two. (2 different doctors). I have decided that open surgery is probably the way to go. They did not do staples or external stitches either- ever - must be an Ohio thing.
    Hang in there!

    Leanne,
Wishing you a speedy recovery. I know you've been through this quite a few times, so I hope this is the answer to all your concerns. I also had nerve blocks before both of my surgeries and benefitted from about 12 hours of pain-free time. Never heard of one afterwards, but good to hear you got some relief and maybe some sleep.

    Take care,

    Leanne,
I'm so glad the surgery is behind you. We all know how tough these post-op days are and will be here to encourage you to press on as you have done for us. It doesn't sound like there were any major surprises for your OS which is good. Hope you can get some sleep while in the hospital. Take care and keep us posted on your progress.
