TOPIC: Re-injure torn labrum post op?

Re-injure torn labrum post op? 9 months, 2 weeks ago #25332

Hello everyone. I am 3 weeks post op from arthroscopic repair for a SLAP tear and bicep tenodesis on my right shoulder, which is my dominant side. I live by myself and have a hard time asking for help. I have been doing things with my right arm that I definitely shouldn't be.
I have already partially torn the long head of my bicep reaching for my dog who was running away out the door, 2 weeks post op. It didn't turn black and blue but you can definitely see a divit where the bicep should be.
Now 3 weeks post op, I think I torn my labrum again when I instinctively used my right arm to block a case of water I had tried to put into the grocery cart with my left arm, which started to fall out because it didn't make it all the way in the cart. I have been icing and it seemed ok the day I did it. But today after I did PT at home, it seems more sore and it's not going away.
When I had asked for an MRI to see if I tore my pinned bicep the doctor said that if we did an MRI this soon after surgery it would look like a bomb exploded and we wouldn't be able to see anything. So my questions are: How soon after surgery can you get an MRI to see if anything has been re-injured? And what are the signs I might have torn my labrum again?

I had the same surgery this past april and just knew I had messed things up several times doing stuff I shouldn't have been doing. That said its hard to tell what's new injury or normal healing pain. I was eight weeks post op and tore my long head bicep off of its anchor and had to have revision surgery to repair it, now I'm five weeks post op from that and live in a constant state of paranoia trying to baby my left arm.

I had an MRI eight weeks post op to confirm bicep damage and it revealed that my shoulder was healing fine which like I said I thought I had screwed up several times. Hope that helps.
