Hello everyone, I posted a year or so ago about being diagnosed with a small slap tear through an MRI. I tried PT and working around the injury and it ended up getting worse over time. Finally I gave in and received surgery last Wednesday (aug 15th). Prior to the surgery I was told I would need s slap repair, but on my paperwork that I received after the surgery it says the procedure was subacromial decompression (840.7 L ASS SAD).. This leaves me a bit confused, is it normal for the surgeon to say you need one thing then do something completely different on operation day? I haven't been able to talk to them about the procedure yet but am worried the slap tear I have will still be there. Any feedback is appreciated, and I never realized how hard it is too type only with my non-dominant hand

MRI's are not always clear and often the results or interpretation is incorrect. The only way to know for sure is to go in and look. shoulder surgery is far from cut and dry - geesh have I learned that.

It's worth clarifying when you have the chance. I was initially told I would require a slap repair and biceps tendonesis and it ended up that the biceps tendon was ok and instead found a micro-fracture on my humerus. My OS said they can't tell 100% from the MRI, but instead adjust as needed once in anthroscopically.

Thanks for the quick replies. I finally spoke to my surgeon's assistant and he told me that when they went into my shoulder they realized that my labrum wasn't torn and that I just needed subacromial decompression surgery. He said I could even start moving it around a little, but atm the pain is still too intense to do much, and I occasionally feel a pop which has me a bit worried. Overall, I'm happy with what he said about me being able to make a full recovery and I'm keeping my hopes high that I'll be able to be running etc again soon.

That is great you didn't need repair. If you've ever watched the surgery online, you will see how they pump a lot of water in there, and those instruments are very invasive to the tissue. It will hurt for awhile - and scar tissue will form. Scar tissue can cause issues, noise, etc.

I had a SLAP repair yesterday. funny thing on my part was I was told that the radiological tests
were negative more than once and sort of disregarded. I insisted based on "my clinical" symptoms
and research and the doc went ahead a did the exploratory. Torn big time, 5 anchors I believe.
I know my body and stuck to my guns and despite the Dr. and the CT/MRI opposite opinion and
    was correct.

Medicine is and art not just a science.....time for my Percocet.
