Ok, so the summary I got from my OS states surgery includes arthroscopy and decompression as well as debridement and possible rotator cuff repair. OK, so I have no idea what decompression or debridement is, and if my rotator cuff is torn, why can't they just sew it back together again.

Also just wondering, do you find your shoulder hurts a lot more in rainy weather than sunny weather?

    Thanks

    Rotator cuff repair
    Debridement of synovium
    subachrominal decompression

Decompression generally means smoothing and removing whatever may be causing your discomfort, ex: bursectomy (usually done, but it will grow back), smoothing the underside of the acromion if there is roughness or spurs, etc. Debridement might mean trimming the torn edges of the cuff tendons. There are several types of tears - full thickness, partial thickness, articular sided, bursal sided, interstitial (delaminated), U shaped, L shaped... you can get the idea! If it is a side to side tear, they could "sew" it together, but if it is detached from the insertion - that's where you get into having suture anchors used to tie the tendon down and back in place. If you have "just" a decompression and debridement, it should be an easier recovery. If you get into a more extensive cuff repair involving anchors and such, it is more of an ordeal.

Sometimes they don't even repair cuff tears at all. Some people have cuff tears and don't even realize it, or have no pain (my husband is an example of that).

Be sure to ask for your operative notes after the surgery. They are very enlightening.
