Hi, I'm posting for to ask for advice and to see if anyone has had a similar experience.

Athletic 25 year old male.

Had a SLAP repair for a grade 2 SLAP tear. 3 weeks Post Op was pain free and feeling great. 3 anchors for a tear at the top of my shoulder (one towards the front of two towards the back).

After physical therapy on week 3 was having some decent pain (first time since week 1) but it wasn't too bad.

Began simple theraband exercise where you externally rotate arm from belly to 90 degrees and back.

Well PT was on a Friday but the next day I was pain free. Decided to attack my PT exercise.

Well I didn't remember how to properly grip the theraband with on overhand grip (knuckles down), sideways (knuckles facing opposite arm), or underhand (knuckles up). I do a few reps (10 maybe) each way and decide knuckles down is the way to continue.

Pain a few hours later is worsening. That night as I went to bed it became worse and worse and the next morning was the worst since week 1 easily. Ice caused it go away to an ache.

During pain I swear I could feel where the anchors had been put. Specifically one of the three (the one towards the front, right where the bicep tendon is generally located) I really thought I might've ruptured the area where the suture was.

That night I remove my sling again and notice my bicep is very stiff, ache is present in shoulder, swelling in fingers. I've also been running a small fever and feeling mild nausea. No taking any pain medication outside of aspirin.

Today Tuesday the swelling in my fingers is gone but the stiffness, mild fever, and occasional pain (especially when trying to sleep) persist.

Next PT appointment is Thursday so I'll share this all with PT. Want to see Doc but my OS is on vacation for a few more days but is very booked up.

Very concerned and debating visiting another local OS to have this checked out with an MRI. The mild fever and sick feeling is what is freaking me out the most. Pain where I had none is concerning as well.

Hope for the best but I'm generally depressed right now about possibilities.

Thanks if you read this.

3 weeks is not very long in terms of recovery. when you say you "attacked" the therapy, did you go beyond what was recommended. one of the most important things to remember with shoulder recovery is to follow pt instructions exactly - and never, ever "push" to try to speed things along. it will only set you back. patience and strict adherence to protocol is necessary.
11/09 Rt. Rotator cuff repair, slap tear debridement
06/10 Rt. Lysis of adhesions, capsular release, SAD, synovectomy
12/10 Rt. Bicep tenodesis, DCE, SAD, labrum debridement, lysis of adhesions
08/11 Rt. Humeral head resurfacing, capsular release
05/12 Rt. Revision total shoulder replacement
03/13 Rt. Revision reverse shoulder replacement, greater tuberosity reconstruction

By 'attack' I mean I just did the exercises as instructed but I did one improperly with my palm facing up instead of down.

Swelling of my hand in addition to the pain is what really scares me. It has gone away by now but I had it for a good 3 days. Not as much acute pain now but it is aching (especially at night) and feels more stiff.

Good news!

After a solid PT session of soft tissue work and a post op with my doc my shoulder is feeling back to where it should be. I re injured the repair site by pulling on the bicep tendon most likely causing the pain and minor swelling. This has put me about a week behind in my progress. The lesson to take it easy has been invaluable though.

To everyone out there make sure you have a great surgeon do your operation. That way even if you stress the repair site everything will stay intact

I am sure very scary. Even now at 5months. I still have pain and needed another MRI. Even though I'm not in great amount of pain, still fearing the worst. I felt the way you feel every time I moved/handled something contary to what I should have. Good luck.
