Hey folks, brand new to the forum, first post. Glad I found this place. I have SLAP surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning. Not looking forward to it, but looking forward to getting back on the road to getting better.

Long story short, came back to tennis a year ago after a 10 year layoff. I'm a 51 year old male, live in Austin, TX. Didn't do proper warmups and did virtually no shoulder prep prior, started off banging serves like I used to and probably created a bit of impingement, a minor labral tear, or both. I worked my way through it and was at about 95%. Could serve with no pain, life was good. Then went to a racing go-cart place for a team building event (K1 racing), someone slammed into me during a turn and the shoulder got significantly worse. Could still play tennis, but serving was now problematic. I knew I had an issue so started down the PT path, saw a surgeon, got xrays, etc... Wasn't getting better so had an MRI scheduled, then last Sunday was playing tennis and the problem went from minor to major and now here I am.

So I'm looking for a good shoulder ice wrap to use so I'm not fumbling around with frozen bags of peas and the like during the recovery process. Has anyone found one they particularly like and can recommend?

And much thanks to those who have shared their rehab experience. It's been helpful reading older posts. I'll be sure to share mine, as well.

I'm a huge fan of the Cryo Cuffs. I bought one for use post strenuous workout.

Agreed with Andy, I love my cryo cuff. I specifically use the AirCast Cryo Cuff with the auto chiller so I don't have to keep lifting the cooler, it plugs into an outlet and keeps it circulating. It's the next best thing to a game ready (which I dream of owning lol)

Hope all went well

Thanks guys.

Different strokes, I guess. I know a lot of people love those devices. I can't stand them. Post operatively with all my dressings on, I think it's completely worthless. It just doesn't chill enough to reduce the temp at anything other than the most superficial level. And after, once all the dressings are off? Way more hassle than I'm interested in, and again, I just don't find them all that effective. I'd much rather have something I just pull out of the freezer and wrap onto my shoulder for 15 minutes, then throw it back into the freezer.

Ended up ordering one of these today:

www.amazon.com/Elasto-Gel-Shoulder-Sleev...to+gel+shoulder+pack

Will report back on what I think of it.

I really like the SmarTemp ice packs from Walmart. They are very pliable, cheap, and stay cold a good long time. I have 3 of them. Plus two polar care ice machines. Bought the first, got the second
free (probably one of the $13,000 of "incidentals" charged by Mass Gen) after this replacement. should sell one of them on ebay! they worked just fine but a pain to fill with ice. I'd pick icicles off the gutter in the winter to use.
