That is great things are progressing so nicely. Steady and easy with PT supervision is the way to go.

My PT was slowed down a bit today. I can barely tolerate doing wall slides in the scapular plane, so she stopped that and just doing assisted arm lifts while laying down. Plus the usual pulley, ball rolling, etc. She is a huge advocate of water therapy - need to get there more often.

My ROM increased from 105 to 115 over the last month or so, so I guess there is improvement. Slow, but sure.

Yeah, it's frustrating to only be able to take what the shoulder gives, but them's the rules. I'm not doing ANYTHING my PT and doc haven't blessed.

I mentioned the PT stepped things up yesterday. Was a bit more sore today, but more than anything, just exhausted. Feels like my body went into one of those phases where it just wants to heal up and sleep. Instead, worked a 10 hour day. Got home and was so tired I could barely see straight. Did my evening exercises, just finishing icing the sucker down and I'm going to bed. Hopefully will get about 8.5 hours of sleep, then back at it again.

Ok, will be 3 weeks out on Friday, so just over 2.5 weeks now. Stepped up PT on Monday and again today, shoulder doing well. In fact, had a milestone today. Switched my trackpad to my right hand again. Used to kill me to get my arm in that position at the computer, then to slide it over to the keyboard was really painful. Now, no pain at all.

Have been cleared to be out of the sling as much as I want. I wear it driving, primarily to ensure I don't do anything reflexively that could damage it, and while sleeping. As of now, that's about it, or when it tires. Have had it off since 8:30am this morning, it's now 6pm, shoulder feels fine.

Started working on external ROM both on my side, and lying supine. Then also added wall glides, pullovers, "ceiling punches" (holding the arms straight over my head, reaching to the ceiling, then back), along with the other stuff I was doing. On table glides, now putting the arm basically on top of a big ball and doing them both in straight flexion, and in scaption.

the shoulder gets sore from the exercises, but I ice it down and it's good. All in all, things are continuing to go well. External rotation is still very limited, but that will come.

Had a few scares. I've been an 'active sleeper' all my life, sleepwalked when I was a kid, occasionally as an adult. Had a sleep study, found my brain doesn't disconnect from my body when I dream like it should, so sometimes I act out my dreams. Had 3 incidents where I tried to jump out of bed and pushed off my surgical arm. Holy crap, that really hurt. did it about 3 nights after the surgery, then a week later, then the very next night. That last one was basically spraining a sprained surgical site and the pain was so bad I could barely breathe. Couldn't even stand up straight for about 20 minutes. Took 10 minutes of lying in bed before I mustered the will to get up and go get ice. Was really concerned I screwed something up, but now several days later I'm back to doing better than ever, so I think it's fine. Thank goodness I still had the sling on or it could've been worse. Will probably wear the sling to sleep until the 4 week mark. My PT tells me it's around that time that the anchors are pretty well cemented in place.

    Onward and upward.

Sounds like you are moving along really well. You are doing more at 3 weeks than I am doing at almost 3 months out. There aren't that many folks here in that fifth decade, and that makes it a bit more of a challenge. I slept with the sling and abduction pillow for over 2 months.
That is better, but still have significant pain. I am trying to get in the pool more often to do my home PT - it makes a big difference.

If you or anyone may be watching the Olympics, it is interesting to see the athletes using that kinesio (?) black tape on their shoulders. I give them a lot of credit - I can't even reach the opposite shoulder to scratch it or wash the armpit.

Riderk....sorry to hear things are moving along slowly, but hopefully at least they're moving in the right direction.

Are you another 50-something? I turned 51 in May. Body definitely doesn't want to heal up as fast as it used to, but man, I'm pulling out every trick in my book to speed things along. Doing everything nutritionally/metabolically that I can. I've got a homeopathic protocol I use for surgeries that a homeopath turned me on to and I think that helps jump start things. Then things like the enzymes I mentioned in another thread, and then I got on the natural anti inflammatory "Zyflamend" well prior to the surgery, as well as Flexcin (which has a formulation I really like). I take a food-based vitamin C, as well, and I think that helps tissues recover MUCH faster than plain ascorbic acid.

On another thread I'll do a write up on posture. I've mentioned I work with people in pain for a living as the clinic director of The Egoscue Clinic in Austin, TX. Postural compromise plays a HUGE role in degrading the quality of shoulder movement and stabilization, and working on things like thoracic back position, humeral position, hip position prior to and after surgery I'm convinced also plays a role in effective recovery.

Wish I had the time and energy to do more in the way of rehab. Right now, between just a little of my own stuff that I can do with this shoulder, then all my shoulder exercises, then working about 10 hours a day, all I have energy for after that is to eat and sleep. My dog thinks I don't live him any more, lol. I walk him the mornings I don't have PT, but man, I can only do what I can do.

I had my first and second surgery at 54, third and fourth at 55, and fifth at 56. I have now lost 65 pounds, which is my greatest accomplishment because it was without trying, and just from pain and stress - down to 113 pounds. I need to find a sponsor to sell the shoulder pain diet on infomercials. Seriously though, I would give anything to get back on my horse, or bicycle, or lift my arm more than 45 degrees.
