That is a fairly aggressive program - not sure what the big hurry is to start strengthening so quickly. But then I don't know your situation. Listen to your own body - I doubt one can harm themselves by taking a slower approach, while one can do damage by proceeding too quickly. Seems like a simple decision to me! Just my opinion

Have seen the physio, he manipulated my shoulder causing searing pain and reducing me to tears. I have localised pain on the front of my shoulder which is very tender to touch - he thinks this is a sprain but the pain on the end of my shoulder which reacts to movement and sends pain radiating down my arm is impingement however, as he can't take my arm over 90 degrees he can't pin point it.

So what next? I'm reduced back to pendulum movements and a few stretches, lots of icing and try to bring the pain down. Back to physio on Wednesday next week for a further assessment with physio and his supervisor............Signed off work for another 2 weeks and feeling absolutely down hearted

Wow, take it easy and try to relax. Not much more to say. When my PT went a bit beyond the surgeon's recommendation (simple stretching months after surgery), the doc called him up and let him have a very strong piece of his mind.

The pain in my arm hasn't eased up and I have been starting to imagine all sorts of nasty possibilities. However, I've just had my latest physio session and feeling a little more positive. The physio had his supervisor take a look and it appears my problems are being caused by alll my muscles trying to work to move my arm and shoulder - I guess they were all having to work for the two years I was trying to function with a SLAP tear and they are going to take a little persuading to let my shoulder operate normally. My shoulder currently looks hunched forward and when I lay on my back its up off the bed............ Has anyone else had postural problems post surgery? I'm wondering if a shoulder posture harness might help to train my shoulder to sit back?

I've now got exercises to stretch my pecs and lats which are very tight, I've got to massage nd stretch my neck as well as the tight muscles there are pinching the nerve sending pain down into my fingers. And I have to try to do some external rotations whilst keeping my shoulder back and not using my pecs.

I'm restricted to doing ROM exercises rather than the strengthening ones but am now allowed to start taking my arm over 90degrees - walking my hand up th wall for the first time was a but scary but I'm glad to be getting it moving further.

Final advice of the session, don't do anything that causes any pain - very different to the previous instructions to push through the 'mild pain'.

Yes almost identical however not so early in my recovery, these symptoms starting occurring when i got back to being active again, golfing and starting back gym (10-12 weeks). I had to execute all the stretches you identified and also work on my posture to ensure my shoulders not slumping forward especially when working at my desk. At 9 months still execute all those stretches and warm up the external rotators before doing anything physical.

Make sure and ice always after doing these activities.

I wouldn't wear the harness. You want to train the muscles to do their job, not replace their function. Try this instead. Stand with your back to a wall and press backwards, concentrate on pulling your shoulder blades together and down. It will feel funny at first, but when the shoulder blades are together and down you will feel a lot of contact with the wall. When rounded it will feel really awkward. Hopefully this makes sense...
