    Thanks for this discussion. It is counter intuitive in one way, but consistent in another.

    For the first two months after my surgery, my doc was very clear that I was not to take any anti-inflammatory meds, the idea being that the inflammation occuring was part of the healing process. He did also have me ice at the same time too, so that cpnfuses my understanding of this argument. Can someone elaborate, or interpret the video (which I also wanted to watch, but can't bring myself to do!)

    Agreed -- ice is the great healer! I think of it as my reward after all of that hard work. I keep ice in the freezer at work as well. While my job is fairly sedentary, I type and write a lot and find icing helps ease the aches if I'm at it for a couple of hours.

    I just drove 10+ hours to see my surgeon on Monday and the first thing I packed was my ice pack, followed by heating pad.
    11/09 Rt. Rotator cuff repair, slap tear debridement
    06/10 Rt. Lysis of adhesions, capsular release, SAD, synovectomy
    12/10 Rt. Bicep tenodesis, DCE, SAD, labrum debridement, lysis of adhesions
    08/11 Rt. Humeral head resurfacing, capsular release
    05/12 Rt. Revision total shoulder replacement
    03/13 Rt. Revision reverse shoulder replacement, greater tuberosity reconstruction
