Hi all! 23 Y.O. Norwegian male checking in
Hurt my left shoulder in June 2010 benching, but didn't have my surgery until recently due to various reasons (wrong diagnosis, school etc.).
The arthroscopic procedure with 2 suture anchors was performed by an accredited surgeon and deemed a success. The OS also shaved the acromion to resolve impingement. Following is my best translation of the report: "(...)There exists a typical SLAP II lesion with detachment of the labrum and biceps anchor from the glenoid. The biceps tendon is normal. No cuff damage. Performs a debridement in the subacromial space. Good conditions - no signs of cuff rupture (...)."
I've experienced minimum pain following the surgery and have as of yesterday stopped taking medication altogether (except NSAIDS 2x/day.)
I've been told to wear a sling for the next 6 weeks and I have my first appointment with a PT on the 8th of February. Before going into PT I've been instructed to perform pendulum swings every hour or so and avoid other movements/not put strain on the shoulder.
My only concern is that my OS wants me to have my arm in a sling for such a long time. Isn't it more natural to remove the sling as early as possible to avoid stiffness?
So far the procedure has gone by much smoother than I anticipated although I'm still prepared to experience more pain when the PT is intensified.
Anyways, just wanted to share my story and any feedback/tips are appreciated. I'll try to update this post now and then to let you know how it goes
EDIT: Don't know how this ended up in message board announcements.. admin please move.
