    TOPIC: Sleeping in bed?????

Sleeping in bed????? 2 months, 3 weeks ago #24157

5 1/2 weeks post SLAP tear surgery with three anchors. Doctor said I did significant damage in the 15 months I put it off. I sleep okay on the couch slightly reclined but can't sleep at all in bed. Tried pillows under arm, jacking up elbow, etc. I do my therapy in morning and also take my pills before bedtime. I might get an hour and then toss and turn and finally get up in terrible pain. Everything else is going well. Anybody have any secrets?

Sorry to tell you it was 10 weeks for me (SLAP type 3, 6 anchors) before I could sleep in a bed. What worked best was an inflatable mattress left kinda soft. The counter pressure supported the shoulder and arm and made it tolerable.

Even at the 10-week mark, I had to use pillows to support arm and shoulder.

    Best of luck!!

Unfortunately, I agree with Woodley....I just had surgery number 3 and sleeping in my recliner...again. My PT also says no to laying down in a bed. I like the inflatable mattress as well with lots of soft pillows. You can also talk to OS or their nurse or your PT for suggestions. You are actually pretty fresh into your recovery and sometimes just time is what is needed. I know that lack of sleep is a real bummer...hang in there!!!

Sorry to hear this. I went from weeks in recliner to sleeping in bed with huge mound/wall of pillows to keep me from moving off my back into any other position. I then transitioned into letting myself roll a little side to side. Hang in there, it will get better! Lack of sleep was one of the hardest things to handle...give yourself extra hours to compensate for your freqent awakenings. I know, easier said than done!!

Thanks. Been thinking that might be the next step. Slow recovery, but as expected. Just frustrating. Thanks again.
