I had a type 2 slap/SAD 4 weeks ago and was wondering what the time frame is for getting a massage after this type of surgery. I am a Massage Envy member and have a ton of free massages racked up. The last time I went for one, my shoulder was so unstable I thought it was going to dislocate through the front from the pressure on my scapula.

If you can tolerate the massage on your shoulder and it's not tender, there is no reason you shouldn't be able to go now given that you make the RMT aware of your history and any ROM restrictions you have. It could be very beneficial...maybe start with a lighter massage and if you have no issues with that, try a deeper massage the next time...but structurally, the repair should be fine to tolerate.

I am so fortunate to have a pt who gives me great shoulder and back massages as part of therapy. she just started working on the scar (it is about 6 inches long) owww that hurt but the kind that is good for you!

My boring predictable response is ask your doc- that is what he gets paid for - to answer your questions!
