Hi folks! I just wanted to report back on my progress over the last 18 months.
So I was super diligent and very cautious in the beginning, the first month I had a sling on almost the whole time.
Months 2-5 I went to a physiotherapist twice a week (and did all my exercises at home) and we slowly got the range of movement back, and then started to get some strength back.
At 6 months I got signed off by that physio, and went to see a specialist climbing physio (I love climbing). He gave me loads more exercises to do (we're talking proper gym sessions now) and said that as long as I built it up slowly, I could go climbing. I left the appointment and was at the top of the crag about four hours later
I was seriously nervous about my shoulder during climbing to start with, and I backed off a number of routes that had a move that I felt would compromise it. As I got stronger and built up confidence this slowly subsided.
I'm now almost 18 months post-repair, and I honestly almost never think about my shoulder. There is no pain (and I had a lot of pain before, especially while sleeping). I have almost equal ranges of movement and strength both sides, although the deltoid on the repaired side is still a little bit smaller.
I was so apprehensive before my op so I just wanted to report back that it can be a success! I wish I'd had this done years ago!
Best of luck to all of you
