Anyone know of a good surgeon, experienced with Latarjets, in the NYC, Conn, Jersey, or Philly area?
Basically, trying to look for a well-rounded surgeon who can look at my CT and MRI results, and tell me if I really need a Latarjet procedure vs a soft tissue corrective procedure for revision surgery.
I saw yet another doctor last week for an opinion, and he said if I chose to get surgery (also said no surgery is an option depending on QoL) that he'd 100% recommend a Latarjet procedure. He said he's had great results and does around 12 a year. I know some people on this board have had complications with Latarjets, so this isn't something I take lightly.
The two prior surgeons I saw said a capsular shift would suffice, and didn't think my CT results warranted a bony procedure, although one of them doesn't regularly do open procedures. This most recent doctor was very vocal about his disagreement with the previous doctor's assessments.
I think this is partially due to the nature of my glenoid deformation shown on the CT. Most surgeons come to a procedure based on how much bony loss there is at the glenoid. I don't have so much loss as I do deformation from a part of it coming off and fusing back. But I do have a large Hill Sachs lesion along with a failed prior surgery.
I've had such varying opinions opinions that I definitely need to see a few more specialists before I remotely begin to commit to any procedure.
While I'm in NYC, I'm willing to venture out depending on the surgeon and institute.
The two docs recommended to me are Evan Flatow (NY) and Gerry Williams (Philly). I chose Williams just because it was easier to travel there. Brilliant, but definitely of the "top elite" bedside manner.
Dr Warner in Boston did my replacement, and is doing the reverse replacement in 3 weeks. I do trust him - very top of the profession and specialty. Some people don't like his no-nonsense attitude, but he is one of the best around.
