TOPIC: Labrum tear in left hip getting Hip arthroscopy

Labrum tear in left hip getting Hip arthroscopy 5 years, 8 months ago #21912

I have been stuck in a chronic pain cycle for about 2 years and having chronic tight muscles and muscle imbalance in my hips and it never going away. I saw provider after provider and never got results.

Well now I know why because I got MRI results back and found out I have a labrum tear in my left hip which is messing up my gate, my pelvis and my sacrum and all the muscles in my lower body are staying tight and messed up because of it.

so now I have to get a specialist to do the surgery. Because I am young only 24 it's very rare to have this apparently and my thinking is its best to go with a specialist who treats professional athletes on a regular basis.

any advice before moving forward with the surgery is welcome.

any ever have this surgery done before and can share insights and experience?

Mostly shoulder issues on this site. I believe posters Javajig
and Mountaingoat have had hip labral issues and surgeries. Use the search forum hip groin above to reply to the old posts.

Do get the most experienced hip specialist for your op. Ask him/her how many of these type of surgeries they have performed, success rates and evolution of surgery. You are young so this is a plus. How did you tear the labrum?? How long before the gait/muscle disturbance from the time of injury???

      thanks for the information,

to answer your questions. My right leg got so messed up and tight because me compensation for the big toe injury that I had to shift my weight onto my left leg and around July/August 2010 about a year ago is when I started to notice the muscles in my left leg and left lower back slowly becoming tight and messed up. Now in retrospect it was because around this time I probably tore my left labrum and my muscles were trying to work overtime to retain a normal hip function.

I had tight right leg muscles before this happened when I ran into another soccer player and jammed my big right toe. I compensated for the big right toe and walked abnormally on it for about a month which messed up my right leg and when that did not resolve itself I started to shift my weight onto my left leg around July/August 2010 about a year ago which probably tore my left labrum in my hip around this time.

I have tried everything and finally I know why I have been spinning my wheels with PT and have been plateaued.

will search for the ppl you mentioned

hope to hear more from you
