subluxation
Written by Jon Smith

i'm 12 weeks post-op for a torn posterior labrum.  i've experienced numerous subluxations towards the front while doing PT and even when putting on clothes and other normal tasks.  the PT says i need to continue strengthening my shoulder, which makes sense, but hasn't so far made any difference.  has anyone else had this experience?

SLAP Tear – The shoulder joint is a very shallow ball and socket. For increased stability, the joint has a collar of cartilage called the labrum. The bicep tendon attaches to the labrum at the top of the joint. A SLAP (Superior Labrum from Anterior to Posterior) tear or lesion occurs when there is damage to the area of the labrum where the bicep attaches.

My name is Andy and I started this site in March 2006 to blog my surgery to repair a SLAP tear in my right shoulder. After a week or so of having the blog on the web I started to get people writing to me with questions. It naturally blossomed into a forum with thousands of postings by hundreds of members.

Over a year later, slaptear.com is not just my story anymore; it’s the story of many going through similar experiences. Pre op patients learn what it’s really like and post op patients share their recovery for support and to help others.

We’ve branched out from SLAP tears now as well. Post your questions here about rotator cuff injuries,  tears and strains. Ask questions about bicep tendonitis and how surgeons repair the bicep tendon. Ask pretty much anything, it's very possible someone here has the answer for you.

With that, enjoy the site. Learn where you can, ask questions and help if you have the answer.

Cheers,Andy

SLAP tear repare..next thursday...eek!

Hello all!,

I am new to this site, but I am finding it quite helpfull, but I still have some remaining questions. Okay, first I'll start with some backround. I am 17 years old and hve been a level 10 gymnast since i have been 11. So basiclly i constantly abuse my body through my sport. My right shoulder has alwys been a tender area, and about a moth ago it was hurting significantly worse...and to touch( that what startled me). So my mom schedualed an appt with the doctor and I got an MRI the very same day. It turned out I have a SLAP tear. I have been doing PT three times a wee for the past three weeks....My surgery is schedualed for next thursday dec 4. I am not very nervous, ust pretty anxious. I have never had any  type of surgery of anestesia. The doctor explained iwill be under general anstisia and have a block ( which im relatively unfamiliar with). I am also with concerned the idea of driving. The doc sayed I must be in the sling for 4 week, no questions asked. I will be on a cruise for that last week of the four leaving dec 27th. I'm a pretty fast healer so I'm hoping i'll be able to remove the sling to get some sun.

So I guess primarily my question are....1) will I be able to drive 2) whats anestesia like, and what's a block like? 3).any suggestions for sleeping..like a wedge or something? 4) I will take any help or suggestions that are offered...so help me pleasee! : ))../.....thank you alll

Post Op Pain Anyone else had this?

I am only 10 days post op- arthro repair of R cuff PASTA lesion, repair of SLAP lesion 1 anchor only , subacromial decompression, debriedment incl chondroplasty, humeral head, gleno humeral joint, debriedment of cuff, subacromial bursa, labrum.  Lastly, removal of 2 loose bodies osteochondral fragments whewww.  I am managing the moderate actual shoulder pain with percocet and managing some sleep with ambien.  My greatest problem has been the nerve pain from the elbow to the fingertips, especially thumb and forefinger, though straightening my arm and pulling fingers up generates pins and needles in all digits.  At night the aching and sensations of deep nerve pain in my lower arm keep me from sleeping.  I have tried all positions and furniture with little result.  I am in a sling with a triangular wedge (gunslinger)  I have suspected this apparatus has been pinching the nerves, aggravated when I assume sleep position whether sitting up or partially on side.  I have found some relief by packing the sling with 3 pieces of egg crate foam to discourage the rough canvas edges and pad the arm.  It seems ironic at this point my only apparent problems are ancillary, resulting from the sling and wedge.  I am hoping this nervy pain and deep aching of the forarm will go away with time.  I am 4 sessions into PT, passive ranging, shoulder blade pinch, squeeze ball, pendulum.  I am using an ice machine several times a day.  Pain is usually bareable during the day, but oh the night sucks.  Any suggestions for more success at night?  Anyone else had this?
