some OS' prefer CPM chairs and others feel they aren't necessary. I guess with him being younger, he can work on passive rom in the chair and not worry about trying to do too much and be over anxious

CPM stands for continuous passive movement. It is a chair that is set up for you by a therapist. You use your good arm to put your operated arm in the special arm of the chair that goes up and down.
